So I just lost all of my notes from the first half of class.  They were fabulous, insightful, and very thorough.  Goes to show me.  Think I will learn my lesson this time??  I hope so!!  To recap though....I hope to do more reflection on my notes this time.  I wasn't sure what Web 2.0 was, and now I know it has to do with collaborative learning and creating.  I remember when the WWW was introduced when I was in 3rd grade.  That's all I can remember.  Sorry.

How social networking can hurt educators?  Just be aware that everything that is posted will be available to everyone else.  Think before you act.  Post only what you want the world to see.  Never discuss students, colleagues, or administrators.  Monitor your sight regularly and remove any inappropriate content.  All communications with students should be school related.

The lines when it comes to what is ethically ok in relation to social networking and teaching is so blurry to me.  I feel like I can’t have my own life because I am a teacher.  I feel like my personal facebook is my personal facebook.  If someone sees something on it, (without my having added students or parents as friends), I shouldn’t be disciplined for it.  It’s my personal life, and people should understand that.  I wouldn’t be inviting parents or students to see my facebook.  But if they somehow saw it, they should know that it’s my personal life and shouldn’t affect my professional life.

Personal Learning Network (PLN)  Reciprocal (sharing)  Learn, Create.

Still unclear as to what it actually is…..

Benefits:

Overcoming isolation, connect and share, get answers to question, always there.   Ok, so twitter/facebook.  Is that what we are talking about here?

Issues:

Takes time to build a network!!  (so we are starting from scratch with both of these?  I don’t have twitter, but I have a big facebook personal network right now)

Building trust.

Tips:

Become active, Use #(hashtags),  Retweets, participate in chats, Share Share Share!

I am confused by the hashtag thing.  Guess I’m not as “up” on technology and social networking as I thought!  It is cool that you can communicate with teachers all over though.

Creative Commons:

My Definition:

Save the world from failed sharing.  Simple way for creators to safely share things.  Copyright-get credit for what you have created.   Share creative wealth and have a way to keep the credit but still let you share and use without always asking you.  Refine the rules of your copyright.

“Creative Commons provides resources that you and students can legally copy, modify, and reuse.”  “Provides a tool for managing your own copyright to allow you to collaborate and share material with other students…, can help you teach students about copyright.”

-       Lots of confusion about energy and it’s costs and consumption.

-       Students like the practical standpoint to learning as opposed to the theoretical.

-       Did practice project to show what the process should look like.

**I am amazed at how different this process is for each grade level and the different teachers that are using it.  What other people did for this project is so different than what I did.
